I value my hands more than any other part of my body: I design with them, draw with them, cook with them. They’re responsible for all these passions and talents that people value me for. They’re my biggest investment. That’s why for me, holding hands truly is the greatest expression of trust and security. When I let you hold my hand, I am entrusting with you more than just my hand; I’m entrusting you with my heart. When disappointed with a shortcoming, holding your hand reminds my heart that there is something to be thankful for. When I’m scared by a fear, holding your hand eases my heart and stops it from beating out of control. And when I’m celebrating a success, holding your hand makes my heart feel content with every aspect of my life. I’m not sure if these words can express how I genuinely feel about it. It’d be easier if you just give me your hand.
It sucks when you spend years keeping your guard up and when you finally decide it’s safe to actually let people into your heart, someone goes ahead and demolishes your trust. You think everything’s going to be okay but it’s not. And most of all, you end up feeling pretty damn stupid for trying to convince yourself that you could stop being a brick wall because nobody would hurt you. You may have let your wall down, but you’re building it back up, and this time, it’s going to be even higher.
